Our Capstan Pedestal base is one of the most popular among our offerings. These are made from either turned poplar, white oak or ash. The maximum diameter we use on this base is 72” round. Maximum table length depends on width and thickness. If the table is long, just add a second base.

The piece that sits on the floor underneath the pedestal is the footing. The footing is always half the size of the top so that it can provide balance and stability. The footing shape depends on the shape of the top and can be square with cutout corners, round, oval, racetrack or a number of other choices.

Each of our dining tables is custom made to your specifications so each comes with a different price. There are a lot of choices so it may be that we need to have a tête-á-tête to discuss what’s best for you. We’re here for that.

For example, you may want to do a lacquered base with a limed oak top if you’re worried about everyday wear or your unruly children. Stained is also an option and there are a number of stains available. Lacquered tops and bases are glossy gorgeous, but they also require some careful care.
