Goodbye, Island House

This weekend Dunes and I went out to the island to close up our little house for the winter. Given that it has no insulation or heat and that there are actually holes in the walls and floor, we had to drain all the water from the pipes and blow them out with an air compressor so they would not freeze and burst in the coming months.

We rolled up the rugs and packed away the linens. We emptied out the pantry and refrigerator and moved the bikes inside.

A little mouse had dragged an acorn into a drawer in the bedroom so we pulled the drawers out and leaned them against the wall.

We left the boats handmade from beach debris and art we made over the summer on the mantle.

And we added to the front door a little wreath.

We still don’t have a proper bathroom.

But we did have a full moon over our beach and we made a trip up island to collect our favorite rocks for an art project.

Till the warm weather returns . . .

    Stacy,
What a sweet post…the passion you put into your home through the renovation you’re working on and the passion in packing it up for the winter is so endearing. Loved reading this!
