Duchy’s Birthday
One of the things I love most about Dunes is that he makes everything special in his own way. For my recent birthday we headed for some much-needed quiet time on the island house. We’ve been working so hard on all our Dunes and Duchess projects as well as our real lives as StacyStyle and Michael Partenio Productions that our sleepless edges were starting to show tatters.
Just because it was a a quiet weekend did not mean it was without production though. On the morning of my birthday I awoke in our freezing little home (no insulation and only two space heaters mind you) to find a gorgeous breakfast and a pile of presents resting underneath a candelabra on our little garage sale dining table.
Breakfast was a plate of dried figs that Dunes sliced in half and stuffed with orange peel, walnuts and honey. He complimented it with a little sharp white cheddar and opened a bottle of dessert wine we bought on a cold dreary day in Tuscany last spring. The nutty flavor of the wine with the figs was superb. The decorative berries and leaves came from our yard.
On the table were lovingly wrapped little prizes in tissue or vintage boxes decorated with shells. Dunes later admitted he couldn’t find any tape in the house so everything had to be tied with ribbon or glued. They were almost too pretty to open.
We rode our bikes to the beach, laid in the sand and daydreamed about new products to debut at the New York Gift Show in January!
