Shipping the mighty hurricane—A Saga Pt. 2

We’re so excited that Gump’s San Francisco chose to use the Dunes and Duchess hurricanes and candelabras for their tabletop display during their Imagining China celebration that runs until the end of October. Dunes and Duchess will be featured alongside designs by Ann Getty, Douglas Durkin, Andrew Fisher and Jeffry Weisman, Jay Jeffers, Barbara Scavullo, and Suzanne Tucker. We are thrilled! The show is in conjunction with the 2010 San Francisco Fall Antiques Show held October 28-31.
So how do you ship almost 50 pounds of glass held together with a leather hinge cross country?

Inside, the hurricane is held in place by a solid foam mold specially created for Dunes and Duchess. The hurricane nestles into the box and is then strapped to a wooden palatte. Dunes added his own personal touches though, such as the leather pads under the nylon straps.

If any of you are going to be attending the festival or find yourself walking through Gump’s now till Halloween, send us a photo and we’ll post it!

I was lucky enough to get to see your fantastic candelabras inside the giant hurricane glass at the Gumps event. LOVED them!!!! They were in the perfect place right next to the Ann Getty table at the front door. It was perfect for everyone to see them. I wish I had been able to get a good photo, but alas…I did not. Looking forward to seeing much more of your work!!
We are thrilled, Katie! Thanks so much! Gump’s has promised to send us some photos and as soon as they do we will post them. We really appreciate your response!
