Dunes and Duchess Take on the Oscars

Last night we watched the Oscars as intensely as we would any major sporting event. Yes, we wanted to know which of our favorite movies won which awards, but more than anything we wanted to see who wore what. We’ve never done an Oscar post, but when Jane Fonda stepped onto the red carpet last night we knew we had to do a little comparison between our pieces and the glamour we saw onstage.

We are a huge fan of Jane’s dress. She’s truly the only person who could pull off that color and she did it with such confidence. Twitter was all lit up about whether people liked it or not, but all agreed—what a body at any age, especially for a septuagenarian. Dust off those workout tapes.

Jane in Versace is best paired with our No Scurvy Lemon Candelabra, don’t you think?

Another truly confident creature is Charlize Theron. With a pixie cut and curves (the only peplum waist I recall seeing) she showed us fashion-forward glamour in Christian Dior Couture. When he saw this pairing, Dunes told me that was exactly the look he was imagining when he designed our Moderne candelabra.

We adore Giuliana Rancic. What style and grace. While we’d put her on a pedestal, here we put her beside ours in her Rafael Cennamo gown.

Gowns, like Dunes and Duchess pieces, can be customized. Jennifer Garner stood out for color in a sea of black and creamy tones last night. Here she is in her Gucci dress with a custom color we did for Trillium on Nantucket.

Award for the most interestingly gorgeous gown of the night goes to Naomi Watts. Her cutout Armani PrivĂ© dress held us captivated and reminded us of a custom metallic two-arm candelabra we did for a customer. We’re showing it here with one arm obscured to match the dress.

Classic is always good, especially if this isn’t your first Academy Awards. Reese Witherspoon’s Louis Vuitton gown perfectly pairs with our classic candelabra in Commodore of the Yacht Club Blue.

The only thing we missed seeing on the red carpet last night was a little pink. Maria Menounos came the closest to our summer color Palm Beach, Darling, but it was a little too intense. Next year we’d like to see her in something a little softer and more fashion forward on her. (Of course for real Oscar fashion opinions head straight to today’s post by Elements of Style.)

We’ve had such a good time pairing these outfits with our pieces that you’ll have to look to see what other fashion combos we’ve found on out Pinterest page! xoduchy

For me, Naomi Watts absolutely killed it with her dress. Perfection. Not getting what wasn’t to love about it. I loved Zoe Saldana and Nicole Kidmans dresses but in my opinion it was definitely Naomi. I also loved how Kristin Stewart was a hot mess, and Jennifer Lawrence looked great even falling over.
